Elderly man killed in road accident en route to court in Sirajganj

An 85-year-old man, identified as Sunil Chandra, was killed in a road accident at Pachlia in Sirajganj on Monday morning while on his way to attend a court hearing.

The incident occurred around 8:15 AM near the Pachil Bridge area under Salanga Police Station.

The deceased, Sunil Chandra, was the son of the late Kartik Chandra of Shurpipul village under Deshigram Union in Tarash Upazila.

According to police and local sources, Sunil was critically injured in the accident near Pachil Bridge. Local pedestrians rescued him and rushed him to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted around 9:20 AM. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at approximately 9:30 AM.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Saiful Islam of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station confirmed the matter, stating that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for procedures.

The victim’s son, Shri Panthas Kumar Sarkar, told police at Sirajganj Sadar Police Station that his father had left home around 7:00 AM alongside a neighbor, Niranjan Mahanta, to attend a hearing at the Sirajganj court regarding an ongoing land dispute case involving 16 bighas of property.

Niranjan Mahanta was also injured in the accident and is currently receiving treatment at Sirajganj Medical College Hospital.
