11 killed in separate road crashes in dists

Three members of the same family were killed while two others were injured in a road accident in the Gazaria section of Munshiganj on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The incident took place in Baushia area of the upazila around 1:45am on Saturday. The deceased are Alamgir Hossain, 50, son of Hossain Ali Bepari of Kadra village in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur, his younger son Zahirul Islam, 30, and his maternal aunt Rahela Begum, 50. The injured are Alamgir Hossain’s elder son Nazrul Islam, 35, and driver Ibrahim Khalil Sujan, 32. They have been admitted to Upazila Health Complex.
Gazaria Police Station Incharge Humayan Kabir confirmed the matter. He said, “The bodies are currently in the police outpost. Efforts are on to identify the covered van. Legal action in this regard is under process.”
It is known that Alamgir Hossain, a Kuwaiti expatriate resident of Dhaka’s Demra area, recently returned home and visited Kadra village in Shahrasti upazila of Bari Chandpur with his family on Friday (May 3). After finishing the trip, they left for Dhaka around 10:30 pm. Around 1.30 am, their private car was hit by a covered van from behind when it came in front of the Mana Bay water Park. The car fell into the ditch on the side of the road. At that time, three people including Alamgir Hossain died on the spot. The fire service workers rescued the two injured including the driver and sent them to the upazila health complex.
Ghazaria Fire Service in-charge Rifat Mallik said, we received information about the accident around 1:50 pm. We reached the spot within 5 minutes of receiving the information and started the rescue operation. All the injured were rescued and sent to Ghazaria Upazila Health Complex.

Gazaria Upazila Health Complex doctor Nadia Afrin said, five patients were brought to our hospital around 2:30 am. Among them, after preliminary observation, we declared three dead. As the condition of injured Nazrul and Sujan is critical, they have been sent to Dhaka with first aid.
Gazipur Correspondent reports that, a truck rammed a pickup truck carrying a mixer machine and 13 workers in Sreepur Upazila
Two construction workers have been killed and 11 others injured in a road accident involving a truck and a pickup truck in Gazipur’s Sreepur.
The accident occurred around 4:30am on Saturday morning. The dead were identified as Rasel Mia, 25, and Abu Sufian, 25, from Sunamganj. The two were brothers-in-law. A pickup truck was headed from Sreepur to Mawna on the Ansar Road carrying a mixer machine and 13 construction workers, said Belal Ahmed, an officer at the Sreepur Fire Service Station. As it reached the residence of the Bhangnahati councillor, it was rammed from behind by a truck. The pickup overturned and workers were caught under the mixer machine.
Rasel was killed on the spot. The 12 other workers were rescued and taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Sufian dead. The 11 other workers on the truck were injured in the accident.
The bodies of the dead have been recovered, said Assistant Sub Inspector Md Kuddus of Sreepur Police Station. The truck was seized but its driver managed to flee, he said. Legal action will be taken over the incident.
Noakhali Correspondent reports that, four passengers of a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw were killed after being hit by a truck in Noakhali’s Begumganj Upazila on Saturday.
The accident took place in the morning at Chandraganj Purba Bazar on the Noakhali-Lakshmipur regional highway of the upazila.
The deceased were Rahmat Ullah Bhuiyan, 65, , army personnel Fazlul Karim, 50, and Alauddin, 45, hailed from Lakshipur district. The identity of the other person could not be known.
Police said a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw was going towards Begumganj upazila from Lakshmipur with five passengers. On the way, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the auto-rickshaw in that area. The two vehicles fell into a roadside canal. The four passengers died on the spot.
Chandraganj Highway Police Inspector Ruhul Amin confirmed it.
Madaripur Correspondent reports that, two passengers on a three-wheeler have died and three other people have been injured after a truck crashed into the three-wheeler in Madaripur’s Rajoir Upazila.
The accident occurred on the Rajoir-Sreenadi regional road next to the Kathalia Bridge around 9am on Saturday, said Md Asaduzzaman Howlader, chief of Rajoir Police Station.
The dead have been identified as Hossain Munshi, 55, and Dhalu Howlader, 60, from Charghunshi village in Rajoir.
Several people were headed to Rajoir from their homes in the morning on the three-wheeler when a lumber-bearing truck crashed head-on into it, according to police and locals. After the crash, the truck veered out of control and fell into a roadside ditch. Two people on the three-wheeler were killed on the spot and three other passengers were seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to the Rajoir Upazila Health Complex, while the bodies of the dead have been taken to the police station.
The truck was recovered from the ditch and seized, but the driver has not been found, OC Asaduzzaman said.
