Two harvest workers were killed and 11 injured when a truck overturned in Tala upazila of Satkhira on Saturday.

The accident took place on Saturday morning in the Sardarbari Battala area of Harishchandrakati on Khulna-Paikgacha road.

The deceased were identified as Saidul Gazi, 38, son of Taleb Gazi of village Boga, and Manirul Islam, 30, son of Tofazzal Sardar of village Mandarbaria of Koyra upazila in Khulna.

Injured laborer Zahidul Islam said that they went to harvest paddy in Gopalganj. After work, they were returning home in the truck with the they received as remuneration. On the way, the truck overturned when it reached Harishchandrakati area. Two people fell under the sack of paddy and died on the spot. At least seven people were injured.

The workers blamed the undergoing road expansion work behind the accident.

According to Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, a truck carrying 13 workers from Koyra upazila turned turtle at Kati Sardarbari Battola at 6:00 am. Two dead bodies were recovered and sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue. The truck was seized but the driver escaped.
