Four killed in Gopalganj road accidents

Four people, including two teachers and a fifth grader, were killed in separate road accidents at Kashiani and Gopalganj Sadar upazilas on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Ramim Sheikh, 10, a fifth grader and a son of Babu Sheikh of Ghoserchar Dakshinpara under Sadar upazila, Juwel Molla, 42, son of Abdul Ali Molla of Puishar village under Kashiani upazila, Pinaki Ranjan Das, 57, a professor of Gopalganj Women’s College, and Babul Sarkar, 48, proffessor of MH Khan College in the upazila.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Anichur Rahman confirmed the deaths.

Ramim was critically injured after being crushed under the wheels of a shallow-engine run trolley on the Chapail road under the Sadar upazila. He then, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Gopalganj General Hospital on Saturday evening, he said.

Meanwhile, Juwel Molla and the two teachers faced the tragic accident while they were going towards the district town riding on a motorcycle around 8.30pm on Saturday. On the way, when they reached at Haridashpur area, they hit a Setu Paribahan’s bus and fell on the road. The trio sustained critical injuries, said the OC.

They were rescued and taken to Gopalganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Juwel dead and the two others succumbed to their injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, added the OC.

Legal actions will be taken in these regards, added OC Mohammad Anichur Rahman.
