The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, built under the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram, remained closure for 12 hours from Sunday (26 May) 6:pm to Monday 6:00am due to the adverse weather caused by Cyclone Remal.
Bangladesh Bridge Authority Executive Engineer Md Nazrul Islam, in charge of toll, traffic and EME management of the tunnel, confirmed the matter to The Daily Sky saying that, the closure time may be increased or decreased depending on the circumstances.
It is to be mentioned that, the severe cyclone Remal approached coastal parts of Bangladesh with massive strength and the cyclonic storm started crossing Bangladesh on Sunday evening, while this report was produced.
Under the peripheral effect of the severe cyclone, gusty or squally wind with rain was continuing over coastal regions of Bangladesh.
