Boy, his grandmother hacked dead in Chandpur

A 12-year-old boy and his grandmother were hacked to death by miscreants in the house of an expatriate at Hajiganj upazila in Chandpur district early Tuesday.

The incident happened at Yusuf’s house in West Radasar village under Bakila union in the upazila around 12:30am.

The deceased were Arafat, son of expatriate worker Yusuf, a resident of the area; and Arafat’s grandmother Hamida, 70.

Bablu, a local resident, said he got a  phone call from the house that the house was attacked by robbers and some of the family members were hacked.

Later, local people went there and recovered the body of grandmother from the scene and another victim Arafat died on the way to hospital.

Halima, 14-year-old Yusuf’s daughter, was also injured in the attack. She was taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital. Later, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as her condition deteriorated.

Muhammad Abdur Rashid, officer in-charge of Hajiganj Police Station, said that on information, the law enforcers rushed to the scene amid heavy rain. The murdered might have occurred due to previous dispute.

The reason behind the incident would be known after investigation, the police official added.
