Agriculture Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid has announced that affected farmers of haor regions will receive financial assistance starting from Tk 7,500.
Speaking to reporters on Monday after the third session of the second day of the DC Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, the minister said a list of affected farmers is currently being prepared.
”Depending on the extent of losses, farmers may receive more than Tk 7,500. The assistance program will continue for the next three months.”
During the conference, Deputy Commissioners expressed concern that despite a bumper potato harvest, farmers are being deprived of fair prices due to weak storage and marketing systems. They emphasized the need for long-term solutions to address the issue.
The minister said the government is planning to expand potato markets and boost exports to overcome the crisis.
While discussing on sacrificial cattle market, he assured that there is no shortage of sacrificial cattle in the country ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, adding that there is neither a deficit nor a surplus in supply.
Aminur Rashid further noted that there is no possibility of new cattle entering the country through border routes.
