A project inception meeting on enhancing disaster resilience capacity for the flood affected population was held at AK Shumsuddin Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Sirajganj on Monday morning.
The programme was arranged by Manob Mukti Sangstha (MMS) with the financial support of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Oxfam GB.
Gonpoti Ray, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) in Sirajganj attended the programme as chief guest, while District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Md. Akhtaruzzaman and other relevant officials were also present in the event as special guests.
Speakers of the programme said, several villages of five upazilas in Sirajganj district are considered as flood and river erosion prone area in the country. People of these areas suffer immensely during monsoon due to floods and frequent onslaught of erosion by the river Jamuna. MMS has been working in the area for long with a view to resilience the sufferings of the people during disasters. Like the previous periods, MMS is going to implement a disaster resilience project in three unions of Belkuchi upazila named Rajapur, Belkuchi Sadar and Bardhul. If the project is implemented properly, residents of the area will be highly benefited.
