Police recovered the body of district badminton team player Nusrat Jahan Maria alias Baisakhi (17) from the student hostel in Natore city. The body was recovered at around 11:30 pm on Saturday.

Nusrat is the daughter of Rafiqul Mridha of Bahadurpur village of Singra upazila of Natore. She appeared in the SSC exam from Bahadurpur High School this year. She used to stay in Hafsa student residence in North Baragacha of Natore city for her studies.

According to the Natore police station, the police went there after receiving information from Hafsa student residence at around 11 pm yesterday. Later, the police broke the lock of the room with the help of fire service personnel and they discovered Nusrat’s body was hanging from the fan. The body was sent to Natore Sadar Hospital mortuary in the night after making a report. Nusrat’s cause of death was not immediately known. The room was locked from the inside. The initial idea of the police is that she may have committed suicide.

Hostel owner Habibur Rahman said Nusrat was his tenant. She has been staying in her room since yesterday evening. Even after night, there is no response from her. So the other students of the dormitory informed the hostel owner about the matter. On hearing the news, he went to the dormitory and informed the police, relatives, and fire service. The police broke the door and recovered Nusrat’s body around 11:30 pm.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nator Sadar Police Station Mizanur Rahman said that the police went to the spot after receiving the information. As the door of the room was closed, the door was opened with the help of fire service personnel. As the door was locked from inside, it was initially believed to be a suicide. The laptop and mobile phone used by Nusrat have been seized. Attempts are being made to find out the cause of suicide from them.
