The Bangabandhu Bridge authorities collected 2 crores 92 lakhs 94 thousand 550 taka in toll from 37,600 vehicles that crossed the bridge in the past 24 hours until Saturday midnight to Sunday midnight after ending the holidays of Eid-al-Adha.
People are taking to the roads to reach their destinations from outside the capital to join their workplaces. So the pressure of vehicles has increased on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway as well.
According to Bangabandhu Bridge sources, 18,000 to 20,000 vehicles cross the bridge in 24 hours during normal time, but this increases during Eid. 14 thousand 894 vehicles crossed the eastern end of the Bangabandhu Bridge from last Saturday at midnight to Sunday midnight. 1 crore 26 lakh 63 thousand 950 taka in toll has been collected from these vehicles. 1 crore 63 lakh 30 thousand 600 taka in toll was collected from 22 thousand 703 vehicles at the western end of the bridge.
Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, the executive engineer of the Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office, confirmed the matter and said, that during normal times, toll is collected through 12 booths on both ends of the bridge, but during Eid, toll is collected through 18 booths with separate motorcycle lanes on both ends.
