Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to resume direct air services on the Dhaka–Karachi–Dhaka route from 29 January, restoring non-stop air connectivity with Pakistan after a gap of more than a decade.

The national flag carrier will initially operate two direct flights a week, a senior Biman official confirmed.

The move follows approval from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, which has authorised Biman to operate on the route and use Pakistan’s airspace along designated corridors.

Currently, travellers between Bangladesh and Pakistan mostly depend on connecting flights through regional hubs such as Dubai and Doha. The return of direct services is expected to make travel more convenient and support increased trade and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Biman officials said discussions with Pakistani authorities had been underway for several months to revive the route. The upcoming launch will mark the first direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi since 2012.

The resumption of air links comes against the backdrop of improving bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan, bolstered by recent diplomatic engagements.
