BSS, Dhaka:
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said BNP couldn’t become a people-centric political party.
“BNP is always opposite to democratic norms. It is very difficult to solve the crisis prevailing in our democratic politics as BNP and their collaborators didn’t change their ideological stance,” he said in a statement sent to mass media.
Quader said all believing in the ideology of the Liberation War and the spirit of democracy should be united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said spreading falsehood and propaganda is the main weapon of BNP. The countrymen rejected them for their negative and ill politics, he added.
The AL general secretary said BNP even spreads lies over the health issue of Begum Khaleda Zia while she has returned home after taking treatment. Releasing Begum Zia is not a political issue, but a legal one, he added.
He said BNP is trying to make the issue political. BNP has been waging movement to release Begum Zia for the last couple of years, but the countrymen have no relation with BNP’s movement, he added.
He said Awami League has never gone to power unconstitutionally or undemocratically. The party (Awami League) has always come to power after getting mandate of the countrymen, he said, adding AL has formed the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the 12th parliament elections held on January 7 last.
Quader said BNP and their collaborators are always active to disrupt the constitutional process and democracy and it is their by-born political legacy. A party formed illegally in the hands of a dictator could never be respectful to democratic values, he added.
He said BNP could dare to participate in the elections if the party could stage movement through the democratic way or could increase people’s participation in their movement. For not having that capacity, the party always takes up the way of terrorism and violence, he said.
Quader warned that the law enforcers would take tough action if anyone tries to destroy democracy and instigate terrorism and violence.
