Possession of Illegal Wealth of Tk 48 cr

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has submitted a charge sheet against former Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Shamsuddoha Khandaker and his wife for accumulating assets worth Tk48 crore without a known source of income.

Khorshed Alam, assistant director of the ACC and investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Court on Tuesday accusing Shamsuddoha of amassing assets worth Tk 21 crore and his wife of Tk 27 crore.

On January 21, 2019, the ACC filed a case against Shamsuddoha for the accumulation of Tk8.44 crore illegally.

In the charge sheet, the investigation officer claimed to have found evidence of illegal earnings amounting to Tk 21.5 crore against the former AIGP.

Shamsuddoha has also been accused of concealing information worth Tk 2.87 crore. Additionally, the ACC has found evidence of illegal assets worth Tk 27.48 crore against Ferdousi Sultana Khandkar, wife of Shamsuddoha.

According to the charge sheet, accused Ferdousi has no legal source of income and she is just a housewife.

Shamsuddoha Khandkar assumed the post of Chairman of BIWTA on 11 October 2011.

During his tenure, he has been accused of several irregularities and corruption and following the allegations, he was removed in February 2015. Before this, he served as the AIGP.
