Just after three days of the college student Shakil murder, Sirajganj Sadar thana police in a raid on Sunday (May 31) arrested the main suspected accused from Chakaria area in Cox’s Bazar district.

The arrested has been identified as Rakib Hasan, 25, son of Haydar Ali of Gupirpara village in the upazila.

Hafizur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police and Public Relation Officer (Media Officer) of the Police Super office in a press conference held at Sirajganj Sadar Police Station on Monday morning confirmed the matter to the media.

Nazran Rouf, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) and Rakibul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the thana attended the press conference.

In a written statement at the press conference, it was revealed that, on May 28, also the day of Eid-ul-Azha, Shakil Ahmed, 24, son of Abdur Razzaque of Balidaho Bhurbhuria village in the upazila was killed in an attack by his rivals at Chameli intersection in Chhongachcha Bazaar centering previous disputes over bike riding and hair cutting in a saloon.

After the incident, victim’s brother Rahmat Ullah lodged a case with the respective police station in this connection.

Indrajit Barman, Sub-Inspector of the Police Station was given charge to investigate into the incident.

Indrajit told The Daily Sky that, taking support of the modern technologies, we traced the location of the prime accused and arrested him in a drive with the help of local PS in Cox’s Bazar district just within three days of the occurrence. Drive to arrest other accused is underway, he added.
