Detectives arrested the president of Eden Mohila College unit of the banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Sunday night on charges of carrying out political activities.
The arrestee was Tamanna Jasmine Riva.
Rezaul Mallik, additional commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that the interim government has banned the BCL, the student wing of the Awami League, on October 23.
Despite the ban, many members, including Riva, have been trying to carry out political activities.
Riva has been named in several cases, but the DB official could not provide any details regarding the case in which she would be shown arrested.
According to the sources, Riva left the campus and went into hiding during the July-August student-led mass uprising. She has not made any public appearances since then.
Riva was a student of the 2009-10 academic batch in Department of Marketing of the college.
Earlier, Nishita Iqbal Nodi, former vice-president of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, was arrested. She was shown arrested in an anti-terrorism case filed with the Kalabagan Police Station. Later, she has been placed on two-day remand.
