Police have arrested former Minister of Textiles and Jute Golam Dastagir Gazi.

The law enforcement officers arrested Gazi, also the Chairman of Gazi Group, on Saturday night (24 August) from a house in Shantinagar in Dhaka.

Confirming the arrest, Paltan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Molla Md. Khalid Hossain said that the former jute minister was arrested from a house in Shantinagar.

Gazi had been hiding at his in-law’s house to avoid arrest. A team from the Detective Branch (DB) police arrested him from there.

Golam Dastagir is accused in a case filed in Narayanganj, the OC added.

Gazi was elected as the Awami League candidate for the Narayaganj-1 seat in the 12th parliamentary elections.
