Expats remittance Tk14,000cr in first 14 days of Sept

In the first 14 days of this September, expatriate Bangladeshis have sent 116 crore 72 lakh ($1.16 billion) US dollar remittances to the country through legal channels which is about BDT 14,000 crores (120 taka per dollar).

This information is known from the updated report published by the central bank on Sunday.

According to the review of the data of the Central Bank, the amount of remittances received in the country till September 14 was 29 crore 73 lakh dollars through state-owned banks, 5 crore dollars through a specialized bank, 81 crore 69 lakh 70 thousand dollars through private banks and 30 lakh dollars have come through the foreign banks.

In August, expatriate income or remittances came to the country of 222 crore US dollars ($2.22 billion) which is BDT 26,656 crores.

In the first month of the fiscal year 2024-25, July, remittances of US$ 191 crore 35 lakh and 80 thousand came to the country. Which is the lowest in the previous 10 months. Earlier in September 2023, remittances came in at $1.33 billion.

In the recently concluded fiscal year 2023-24, foreign exchange remittances equivalent to 2,392 crore US dollars came to the country. The amount of domestic currency is two lakh 82 thousand crores. The remittance figure is the second-highest collection ever. The highest record remittance in the country’s history came in the fiscal year 2020-21 at $2,477 crore.
