TDS Desk:

The government employees are awaiting the official gazette notification following the approval of the 9th National Pay Scale 2026.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani has said the gazette may be issued by Wednesday (2 September) or Thursday (3 September).

The details of the new basic salaries, pay scales and allowances will become clear once the Finance Ministry issues the official notification.

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, approved the National Pay Scale 2026 and the Armed Forces Joint Services Instructions 2026 at its meeting on Monday (31 August). The new pay scale will take effect from 1 July 2026.

The revised salary structure was finalised after considering recommendations from the National Pay Commission 2025 and the Secretaries Committee, as well as inflation, the government’s financial capacity and the rising cost of living.

Although the existing 20-grade structure has been retained, significant changes have been made to the basic salaries for each grade.

  • 20th grade (lowest): The starting basic salary has been set at Tk 20,000, marking a 142% increase from the previous scale.
  • 1st grade (highest): The basic salary has been fixed at Tk 156,000, representing a 100% increase from the previous scale.
