Labonno Chowdhury began her acting career as a child artiste, and more than a decade has passed since she embarked on her journey in the entertainment industry. She first garnered attention for her role as Ruby in the film “Bonolota Express”. More recently, she appeared in a lead role in the web film “Mission DDLJ”, which has received a positive response from audiences.

In a conversation with the Daily Sun, Labonno spoke about her latest project, her journey from child artiste to adult actress, and her aspirations for the future.

The web film Mission DDLJ has been released. What kind of response are you receiving?

My character in the film is named Diya. She is a very lively girl but is deeply fascinated by 90s-style romance. She dreams of having a love story reminiscent of that era and actively pursues it. Director Asif Jahangir Orko has brought the story to life beautifully. The response has been good, and I have been receiving the kind of reactions I had hoped for. At the special screening, the audience’s reactions were exactly what I had anticipated.

How did your journey in acting begin?

I started my career as a child by modelling for commercials when I was in the first grade. During my teenage years, I acted in films such as ‘Debi’ and ‘Krishnopokkho’. I think transitioning from a child artiste to an adult actress was quite challenging. It was a completely different phase, and I had to gradually adapt to it.

What inspired you to pursue acting as a career?

I do not really consider acting simply a profession; I love doing it. My parents have always inspired me a lot. My father was involved in theatre for a long time, and he has been a major source of inspiration for me. His connection with theatre encouraged me to pursue acting and helped me develop a love for the craft.

From Krishnopokkho and Debi to Bonolota Express, you have had the opportunity to work in three films based on Humayun Ahmed’s stories. How do you view this experience?

I consider myself very lucky. Not everyone gets the opportunity to work in films based on the stories of Humayun Ahmed Sir. Fortunately, I have already worked in three such films, so I feel truly fortunate. However, I do have one regret. If I could have worked directly with Humayun Sir under his direction, I think it would have been even more meaningful for me. It would have given me a greater sense of achievement.

What is one dream role that you hope to play someday?

I am looking for diverse roles in the future as well. I want my audience to always see me in different roles; to see me in different stories and in different ways. I do not want to limit myself to one particular type of story or character. I always wanted to play a character of Aparna from ‘Apur Sansar’. I was also fortunate enough to fulfil that dream by acting in the film ‘Priyo Satyajit’. Another character I would love to play is someone like Geet from ‘Jab We Met’.

Which director or co-star would you like to work with in the future?

I do not have any specific wish list. However, I have previously played the younger versions of Jaya Ahsan Apu’s characters in ‘Nakhshi Kathar Jamin’ and ‘Debi’, but I did not get the opportunity to share the screen with her. I would love to work with Jaya Apu in the future. I would also like to work with Zahid Hasan Bhai and Aupee Karim Apu.

What are your upcoming projects?

I have signed a new big-screen project, in which I will play the lead character. The shooting is likely to begin in December. I am also in talks for several other projects. I hope to announce more details soon.
