Lt. Tanjim murder case: 4 get death penalty

A court has sentenced four people to death in the murder case of Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar, an army officer who was stabbed to death by a gang of robbers during an operation in Dulahazara of Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar district.

At the same time, five people were sentenced to life term imprisonment, four to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and five were acquitted.

Cox’s Bazar Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Abul Mansur Siddiqui announced the verdict at around 12 noon on Wednesday (May 20). Senior lawyer of the court, Khurshed Alam Chowdhury, gave this information.

He said that the trial of the case was completed through the testimony of 52 witnesses for the state. The witnesses gave their statements in court without fear. Later, after the arguments of both sides, the court announced the verdict today.

In 2024, the joint forces conducted a raid in Purba Maijpara village of Dulahazara union in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar after receiving information about a robbery. During the raid, members of the robbers stabbed Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar to death.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that on September 23, at around 12:30 am, the joint forces surrounded a suspicious house in Dulahazara area of ​​Chakaria. At that time, Lieutenant Tanjim challenged two terrorists and they stabbed him. He was first taken to Chakaria Christian Hospital in a seriously injured condition. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Ramu Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The doctor on duty there declared him dead at 4:50 am.

A total of 18 people were accused in the two cases filed in the murder of Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar and a charge sheet was filed in the court earlier.
