MP Anar murder: Faisal makes confessional statement

Another accused, Faisal Ali Shahaji alias Saji, has made the confessional statement in a case filed over the murder of Jhenaidah-4 constituency parliament member Anwarul Azim Anar in India’s West Bengal.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Tofazzal Hossain recorded his statement in the court on Wednesday.

The accused Faisal Ali Shahaji alias Saji is the son of Alauddin Shahaji of Alka village of Fultala upazila in Khulna. DB Police Assistant Commissioner (AC) Mahfuzur Rahman, the investigating officer of the case, brought him to court on Wednesday and requested to record his statement.

Earlier, another accused Mustafizur Rahman Fakir, who was arrested along with Faisal, gave a confessional statement in the court. Then the court sent him to jail. Mostafizur is the son of Iman Ali Fakir of Jugmipasha village of Phultala upazila of Khulna.

On June 27, accused Mostafizur Rahman Fakir and Faisal Ali Sahaji alias Shaji were granted a 6-day remand following the 10-day remand plea by Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md. Ataullah.

Earlier, accused Shilasti Rahman on June 3, Tanveer Bhuiyan on June 4 and Syed Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan on June 5 gave a confessional statement in the MP Anna murder case. Then on June 14, Awami League leader Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu also gave a statement. They are all in jail.

Anwarul Azim went to India for medical treatment on May 11 and went missing on May 13. On May 22, detectives in Kolkata confirmed that he was murdered.

On June 9, the CID in West Bengal recovered some bones, suspected to be of Anwarul’s, from a spot on the bank of a canal near Polerhat in North 24 Parganas, around 15 kilometers away from the New Town apartment where Anar was reportedly murdered and his body was dismembered, according to Indian media reports.

On May 28, the Kolkata CID recovered four kilograms of flesh, suspected to be of Anwarul’s, from a septic tank of Sanjeeva Gardens in Kolkata.
