Md Alamgir Hossain, DIG of Rajshahi Range said, “No one from outsiders killed police personnel in Enayetpur Police Station. Those, who killed the police personnel on August 4 during the Quota Reform Movement, belong to locals. So, all should give up such kind of terrorist activities in future in which police can perform their duty for the welfare of people.”
He came up with the remarks, while addressing a view exchange meeting held at the temporary office of Enayetpur thana on Wednesday with the members of civil society, local residents and politicians.
The DIG condemned the brutal killing incident and said, “Those, who killed the police personnel brutally, will bring to book after fair investigation. Police are friends of people, not enemy. So, people should come forward to assist the police, while they serve professional duty. People and police should have to work together for the wellbeing of society.”
During the program, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mir Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Faruk Hossain, Officer in Charge (OC) of Enayetpur thana Kamal Hossain and local civil society members among others were also present.
It is to be mentioned that, at least 14 cops and two demonstrators were killed in the violence at Enayetpur police station on August 4 during the Students-People Movement.
The protesters attacked and torched the police station, vandalized the furniture and looted valuable instruments along with arms and ammunitions at that time. Since after the incident, a rented building is being used as temporary office for the Enayetpur police station. But, the normal activities are being hampered there so far due to lack of own and secure office for the police personnel. Not only that, since after the massacre at the thana, remaining staffs and police personnel could not come out of trauma as the fear of that violent day is still haunting them.
