A senate member has proposed to cancel the ‘doctorate’ degree of Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed from Dhaka University (DU).
Educationist Ranjit Kumar Saha made this proposal on Wednesday evening in the annual session held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the DU.
He said,”Benazir Ahmed was not qualified to get a degree from Dhaka University. He was allowed on special consideration. But it was seen that he has tarnished the image of Dhaka University through corruption. His thesis was of very ordinary quality, which does not go with Dhaka University. I demand cancellation of his degree.”
The former IGP received his doctorate degree from the DU in 2019. From then on, he added the word ‘doctor’ before his name. However, he was not eligible for admission to the degree program. But later relaxing the conditions, he was granted admission.”
Mentionable, Benazir Ahmed received his doctorate degree from the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program of the Faculty of Business Education of the DU. A graduate degree is required for admission there and also needed at least 50 per cent marks in all public examinations of education which Benazir did not have.
