Sirajganj town dwellers under the banner of “Sirajganj Rail Banchao Andolon Committee” formed a human chain at Baza’ar Station area in the town on Saturday demanding establishment of Railway Junction at Raipur area in the town.

They demanded construction of newly proposed Bogura-Sirajganj railway connecting to Raipur Junction with the aim to strengthening the railway connectivity for the people of northern region.

The programme was presided over by Advocate Mahbub-a-Khoda Tutul, President of the committee.

Speakers at the human chain said, under construction Sirajganj-Bogura railway is the output of 20-year movements carried by Sirajganj dwellers. After completion of the project work, it will play a vital role in context of enhancing economic development.

On the other hand, if Raipur Railway Station is developed to a junction, it will play more vital role to boost trade and commerce across the country.

The demonstrators also threatened for tougher movements in future if their demands are not met. They will blockade the Kodda area to cut off rail and road connectivity for non-compliance of their demand.

Saidur Rahman Bachchu, General Secretary of District BNP and President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s District Unit, Laila Ferdous, Professor of Rabindra University, Rafiqul Islam Selim, former General Secretary of District Lawyers Association, cultural personality Abdus Salam Mamun, Faridul Islam Sohag and businessman Saiful Islam among others spoke on the occasion.

People from various professions participated in the demonstration.
