Speakers at a discussion meeting on Tuesday (June 16) stressed the need for building strong resistance and social movements against drug abusing to protect the country’s young generation from its deadly grips.

They also expressed deep concerned over the issue remarking that teenagers and adults are particularly vulnerable to using drugs.

All should know the consequences of taking drugs so that they stay away from the deadly paw of drugs. All people need to lead healthy and sound livelihoods.

The speakers urged more empowerment, activation of narcotics control department and ratification of acts.

The participants demanded to bring the drug peddlers and users to book to ensure punishment in which people specially young generation never ever addict to any sort of drugs. They also underscored the need for intensifying drive against drug peddlers.

Referring to the adolescents and youths’ drug addition, the speakers said, only responsible and sympathetic behaviour of their parents, guardians and relatives can save them from derailment.

The participants advised to follow religious guidance, practicing own culture, strengthening family bonds, employment generation and strict enforcement of laws.

They said, all should have to work together beside the law enforcing agencies against drug abusers.

The speakers made the call at a discussion on observation of an advocacy and networking meeting with department of Social Service, department of Women Affairs, department of Narcotics Control, department of Education, department of Health, children, parents and NGOs held at the auditorium of department of Social Service under Sadar thana in Khulna city.

Jagrata Juba Shangha (JJS), a Khulna based non-government organization arranged the discussion meeting supported by kindernothilfe (KNH), Germany to create awareness among the students and enhancing anti-narcotics movement to check abuse of drug in Bangladesh.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) of Khulna Bitan Kumar Mondal was addressed the event as chief guest. Executive Director of JJS, ATM Zakir Hossain presided over the function.

Assistant Director of Department of Social Service, Khulna Md Abu Taleb, District Education Officer, Khulna SM Sayedur Rahman, Program Officer of Department of Women Affairs, Khulna Saziya Afrin Siddiqee, Senior Health Education Officer, Khulna Md Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Inspector of Narcotics Control Department, Khulna Md Akbar Ali, were present as special guests, Senior Program Director of JJS, MM Chisthy delivered the address of welcome. Project Manager of JJS, M Hasibul Hasan conducted the function.
