BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will contest the upcoming 13th parliamentary election from the Dhaka-17 constituency, with his nomination papers submitted on his behalf on Monday.

The papers were filed around noon at the office of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer in Segunbagicha by Professor Dr Farhad Halim Donar, Chief Adviser of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB).

Party sources said Tarique Rahman will contest the election from two constituencies—Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6—in the 13th parliamentary polls. His formal election campaign is scheduled to begin in Sylhet. Nomination papers for the Bogura-6 seat are also set to be submitted later the same day.

According to BNP leaders, following his return to the country, Tarique Rahman became a registered voter of the Dhaka-17 constituency last Saturday. Since then, senior party leaders have been urging him to run from the seat.

The Dhaka-17 constituency encompasses several upscale areas of the capital, including Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara.
