The universal pension scheme “Prottoy” for the teachers of public universities will be launched next year, as the misunderstanding over the issue has been resolved, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Saturday.

“There had been a misunderstanding among the university teachers over the universal pension scheme Prottoy and it has been put an end through a meeting. All stakeholders of government and autonomous bodies will be brought under the pension scheme from July 1, 2025,” Quader said this while addressing a press conference at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi area of Dhaka.

Earlier in the day, Quader held a meeting with a delegation of public university teachers, following an indefinite strike protesting the pension scheme Prottoy.

Prime Minister’s Education and Cultural Affairs Adviser Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury was also present at the meeting.

Besides, Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association President Prof Dr Md Akhtarul Islam and Secretary General Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman were among the delegation of teachers.
