WB to provide $700 million assistance: FM

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud today said that the World Bank (WB) will provide $700 million for the Rohingya and shelterer communities.

Abdoulaye Seck, WB Country Director assigned to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (January 23).

At the end of the meeting, the Foreign Minister said that he had a meeting with the WB country director. He (Abdoulaye Seck) said that the World Bank will provide $700 million for Rohingya and shelterer communities. Of this, $315 million will be given to Rohingyas while the remaining $385 million will be given as soft loans to Rohingya and shelterer communities.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud also said that the World Bank has talked about increasing relations. They want to be more involved with us.

The Foreign Minister returned to Dhaka on Tuesday (January 23) after leading the Bangladesh delegation to the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the 77-nation group and China’s third southern summit in Uganda
