Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, criticised Taare Zameen Par and Hindi films, calling them ‘rubbish’. He praised Hollywood classics like The Godfather.

Yograj Singh, former cricketer, coach, and father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh, shared his views on parenting in a new interview, dismissing Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par as a “wahiyat” (rubbish) film. Singh stated that he believes a child should grow into the person their father envisions. He also criticised Hindi cinema and actors, while praising Hollywood films.

During an interaction with YouTuber Samdish, Yograj, 66, recalled an incident when he threw away his son Yuvraj’s skates to discourage him from pursuing roller skating, ensuring he focused on cricket instead. Defending his strict parenting style, Yograj said, “Baccha woh hi banega jo baap kahega (A child becomes what their father wants them to be).”

When asked about Aamir Khan’s 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which highlights the uniqueness of every child and the importance of good parenting, Yograj bluntly said, “Badi hi wahiyat film hai (It’s a really bad film). Main aisi picture nahi dekhta (I don’t watch such films).”

Yograj further criticised Hindi cinema, saying, “Hindi film koi dekhne ki cheez hai? I don’t like Indian actors (Are Hindi films worth watching?).” He also called actors like Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor “bekaar” (rubbish) and expressed his disdain for Baahubali. “Ye sab bekar. Kya Baahubali, leave it (These are all rubbish, leave it),” he remarked.

However, Yograj praised Hollywood classics like Ben Hur and The Godfather as his favourites. He also appreciated Netflix’s Punjabi crime thriller Kohrra.

The 2023 series, starring Surinder Vicky and Barun Sobti, earned acclaim for its compelling blend of crime, emotion, and exploration of the human psyche. The show, lauded for its performances, is set to return for a second season.
