Online Desk:

The family of late actor Salman Shah has allegedly received death threats following the arrest of actor Ashraful Haque Don in the murder case involving the popular actor.

Mohammad Alamgir Kummkum, plaintiff in the case and Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, told reporters on Wednesday that Shahraan, Salman’s brother, had been threatened with death in a Facebook comment.

Kummkum showed journalists a screenshot of the alleged threat after appearing at a Dhaka court for Don’s bail hearing.

He said the threat was posted from a Facebook account named “Shakil Kibria” in the comments of a Facebook Live hosted by a Salman Shah fan named Mamun.

The screenshot showed the comment: “Mamun, tell Neela Chowdhury not to go too far regarding Salman’s death. Otherwise, we will kill Shahraan (Salman Shah’s brother) the way we killed Salman Shah.”

Kummkum said they would file a general diary (GD) with Ramna police over the threat, noting that the Salman Shah murder case was filed with the same police station.

Mamun, who was present at the court, said he was conducting the Facebook Live to call for a human chain by Salman Shah fans when the alleged threat appeared in the comments.

“The comment was later deleted while I was taking a screenshot,” he said.

“We, Salman fans, have been saying that he was murdered. Why are such threats coming after Don’s arrest? This should also be investigated,” Mamun said, urging authorities to bring everyone involved in the case to justice.

Don denied bail

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court rejected Don’s bail petition in the Salman Shah murder case.

On Wednesday afternoon, lawyers including M Faridul Islam and Tarikul Islam Jewel sought bail for Don before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam.

Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqi opposed the petition, while the defence argued that there was no specific allegation against Don in the FIR or arrest warrant and that he was not involved in the alleged incident.

The court rejected the bail petition after hearing both sides.

Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took Don into custody after receiving information from immigration authorities as he was preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

He reportedly had a travel ban in connection with the Salman Shah murder case.

Murder case

Salman Shah died at his residence in Eskaton, Dhaka, on September 6, 1996. His death was initially recorded as a suicide, but a murder case was filed later.

The case has remained under investigation and legal scrutiny for decades.

On October 20, 2025, Kummkum filed a murder case with Ramna police on behalf of Salman’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, against 11 people.

The accused are Samira Haque, her mother Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, actor Ashraful Haque Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, Abdus Sattar, Saju and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad.

The latest death-threat allegation has renewed attention on the case, with Salman’s family and fans calling for an investigation to identify the person behind the threat and determine whether they have any connection to the murder case.
