At least four people were killed and over 1000 injured during a clash between quota protesters and police in Dhaka’s Uttara on Thursday.
The incident occurred as police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) attempted to disperse protesters who had gathered since 11am.
Mizanur Rahman, the superintendent of Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, confirmed that four of the injured were declared dead upon arrival.
Among the injured were several police members. Rahman said the critical condition of many who were brought to the hospital.
The clash resulted in a large number of injuries, with Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital reporting around 500 people seeking treatment following the violence.
Additionally, Mahmudul Hasan, an orthopedic specialist at Uttara Crescent Hospital, said that more than 400 agitators were treated at their facility, with one individual succumbing to their injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed.
Dr Hasan also reported that 10 to 12 injured students suffered eye injuries and were subsequently sent to Bangladesh Eye Hospital for specialized care.
