The Coast Guard West Zone has rescued eight fishermen alive along with their fishing boat after the vessel got stuck up in the deep sea due to engine failure.

Coast Guard West Zone media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon in a press release on Friday said that, the fishing boat with eight fishermen went to fishing about 11 nautical miles south of Kokilmoni in the Sundarbans. But, the boat got stuck up when its engine turned to inoperative after breaking down at around 11:00 am on September 19.

Due to disorder of the engine, the boat had been remained floating for several days. After it came within mobile network coverage, one of the fishermen contacted the boat owner at around 3:00 pm on September 24 and informed him of the situation. The owner then sought assistance from the Coast Guard West Zone.

Following the information, Coast Guard Station Kokilmoni immediately launched an operation and rescued them alive.

The rescued fishermen were provided with first aid and necessary foods. The process of handing over the fishermen and boat to the owner is underway.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said the Coast Guard would continue such emergency rescue operations in the future.
