Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday said Nasiruddin Patwary, chief organiser of National Citizen Party (NCP), should be interrogated regarding his statements on the recent crude bomb blasts across various locations in the capital.

Md Tofael Ahmed Miah, joint commissioner (Crime Prevention-South) of DMP, made the remark on Friday while responding to questions from journalists at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road in the capital.

He added that the police are currently investigating the recent crude bomb explosions and that the DMP considers it necessary to question Nasiruddin Patwary regarding his remarks in connection with these incidents.

Meanwhile, Shyampur Model Thana police arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Zahid Hasan Imon, in connection with an investigation into a crude bomb blast that took place in front of Jatrabari Police Station on 19 September.

He was apprehended during an early morning raid in the Bagashur area of South Keraniganj on Friday.

According to the police, the items recovered from Imon include 1.5 kg of caustic soda, 1.6 kg of sulphur, 5 kg of marbles, 2 kg of 1-inch wire nails, 20 red and 11 black adhesive tapes used for wrapping crude bombs, 9,000 paper masks stored in three cartons, 30 packets of elastic, as well as a blender and jar.

Police claimed that during initial interrogation, Imon revealed that the paper masks had been sent to him via an unidentified van driver through a leader based in Lalbagh. The masks were kept at his residence for subsequent distribution among various party leaders and activists.

Police further added that Imon faces two separate cases at Shahbagh and Lalbagh police stations under the DMP, and legal processing against him is currently underway.
