Nine Indian officials working at the Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat have left Bangladesh without informing the authorities, prompting serious concern among the plant management.

The officials were employed at the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL), which operates the Rampal power plant.

The plant’s Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Anwarul Azim said, “When they were not found in the dining hall in the morning, we made inquiries and learned that they had left for India without permission.”

He added that the matter has been reported to the higher authorities, and the reasons behind their departure are being investigated with due importance.

According to officials, the Indian officials left Bangladesh through the Bhomra land port.

Project Director Ramanath Pujari was later informed, and he contacted the concerned officials, who reportedly cited “security concerns” as the reason for leaving the country.

Plant authorities, however, said the explanation was puzzling, as the power plant area is under strict four-layer security involving the army, police and Ansar.

They also noted that the officials had never formally raised any security-related complaints or expressed concerns prior to their sudden departure.
