A court in Chattogram on Saturday placed Md Abdul Latif, the former Awami League lawmaker from Chattogram-11, on a three-day remand in a case filed over shooting and injuring a protester during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb passed the remand after police produced him before it with a petition for a seven-day remand, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Prosecution Mafiz Uddin.

Earlier, one quota reform movement activist Md Ershad filed the case with the Double-mooring police station accusing Latif and 15 other identified accused on Friday.

The plaintiff in the case alleged that the accused led by Latif, a lawmaker from Chattogram 11 (Bandar-Patenga) constituency, attacked a group of quota reform activists at Dhanialapara on 4 August.

They opened fire, attacked the activists and blasted cocktails at that time. The plaintiff sustained bullet in the attack.

Latif was arrested from the city’s Bayezid Bostami area on Saturday early hours, police said.
