A 23-day travel ban has been imposed on three hill districts of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachhari, from October 8.

Shah Mujahid Uddin, deputy commissioner of Bandarban, informed the directives on Sunday (October 6).

In a message, the DC mentioned that due to unavoidable circumstances, tourists have been requested to avoid travelling to Bandarban from October 8 to October 31.

The local district administrations of Rangamati and Khagrachhari have also requested tourists not to visit the areas during the same period.

Earlier, the local Rangamati district administration had discouraged tourists for travelling to Sajek from September 25 to 27 due to the unrest and the prevailing law and order situation in the hill district.  Later, it was extended until September 30.

On September 20, four people were killed and at least 72 others injured as violence flared up among the ethnic minority communities and a group of Bangalee people in Rangamati town and Khagrachhari’s Dighinala and Sadar upazilas.

Later, to control the situation, the authorities imposed section 144, which restricts assembly of three or more people, on Khagrachhari and Rangamati towns.
