A court in Sirajganj has sentenced five persons including husband, wife and their daughter to life term imprisonment for killing a date juice trader.
The court also fined Tk 1 lakh each, in default; they will have to serve six more months in Jail.
The convicted are Sujat Ali alias Tukka, his wife Selina Khatun and their daughter Fatema Khatun of Tebaria village, Haidar Ali and Hosneara Khatun of Deovog village in Raiganj upazila of the district.
Begum Laila Sharmin, Judge of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 in Sirajganj handed down the verdict on Monday noon.
According to the prosecution’s brief, Jahangir Sheikh of Hasna village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila used to visit the house of Sujat Ali Tukka in Raiganj upazila on account of date juice business. At one stage, an extramarital affair developed between Jahangir and Tukka’s daughter Fatima.
On April 3, 2007, locals found the body of Jahangir in the village and informed police. Later, police reached to the spot and recovered the body. Victim’s wife Maya Khatun lodged a case with the Solonga police station in this connection accusing 10 persons including Tukka, his wife Selina and daughter Fetema.
Later, the charge of investigation was handed over to Detective Branch (DB) of Police. On May 5, 2008, the investigation officer (IO) submitted charge sheet to the court accusing the 10 persons.
The court issued this verdict on Monday after completion of an 18-year-long judicial process, the court sources said.
The remaining accused in the case were acquitted as the charges brought against them were not proven.
