Law enforcers’ effort going in vain

Despite all efforts of the law enforcers, the crimes through social media especially facebook are on the rise.
Law enforcers cannot control such as crimes even after conducting various drives and increasing surveillance due to lack of adequate advanced technologies and manpower in the concerned departments. As a result, misuse of internet technologies basically social media facebook is not reducing at all that rising risk.
Many people especially females are being harassed by the fake facebook ID users. Even, the government and its various organizations are not getting rid from the clutch of hackers and organized criminals.
A section of anti-government people, who don’t believe the cognition of ‘Liberation War in 71’ are carrying various anti-social activities including spreading of rumors against the government through facebook.
Though, the law enforcers claimed that they have beefed up surveillance against propagandists to resist anti-government rumors, the effort is not coming to help due to lack of appropriate technologies in which they can’t find out the criminals in time.
Meanwhile, a specialized unit named ‘Cyber Police Center’ has been set up to curb the overall misconducts of the cyber world.
Under the project ‘Enhancing Cyber Crime Investigation Capability of Bangladesh Police’, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police is working with a state-of-the-art digital forensic lab. Besides, an international standard cyber crime investigation center has been set up with the financial and technical assistance by South Korea. However, such crimes are on the rise that leads apprehension among the civil society members.
Recently, a case was filed against three persons for spreading anti-government propaganda through social media facebook. The accused are: Nausin Mostary Mia Saheb, son of Abul Kashem, Md. Kamrul Hasan Rony, son of late Md Nasir Uddin, Mohammad Masudul Hasan, son of late Maolana Md. Jalal Ahmed. They all are activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, sources said.
Freedom Fighter Md. Fazlul Karim lodged the case with Narsingdi Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on March 3. The case no is 221/2021.
Judge Rakibul Islam took the case in cognizance and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for investigation. The court also asked the investigation officer (IO) to submit investigation report by a certain period.

Numeric ID 100044575573427 https://www.facebook.com/mohammadmasudul.hasan.5, Numeeic ID 100000417258544 have been giving posts of various anti-government status tarnishing image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ministers, Secretaries, Judicial Department, Army, RAB, police and other government firms intentionally.
The accused are spreading confusing information criticizing various development activities of the Awami League government. Even, they are spreading misleading data about Army, Police and RAB forces. The controversial posts are creating rumors among people and a negative impact against the image of the government has been fallen.
Police said, some people belonging to Jama’at-Shibir and BNP might have been involved with running such heinous activities with a view to tarnish the image of the government.
Md Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (media) of the Police Headquarters said, “ICT department of police are working hard to identify such people, who are involved with spreading anti-government rumors. Besides, those, who are engaged in criminal activities including blackmailing with women and children, are being brought under trial. Meanwhile, police have launched a new apps in which female victims can get remedy through it. Women are now able to file any kind of harassment complaint through this apps.”
“The list of such criminals, who are involved with spreading propaganda against the government through facebook, has been given to all police stations and airports to nab them. Besides, surveillance has been beefed up everywhere so that they can’t escape,” he added.
