Media Reform Commission Chief Kamal Ahmed on Tuesday said without financial security for journalists, objective news cannot be expected from them.
To address the issue, the reform commission will place a recommendation before the interim government for ensuring journalists’ financial security, he said.
Kamal Ahmed made the remarks while exchanging views with Rajshahi-based newsmen over the current state of journalism, at the Rajshahi district administrator’s office.
He also said that media outlets themselves must take protective measures for their journalists. Even when a journalist faces legal actions for filing a true report, media outlets must take up the fight.
At the event, journalists provided various advices to the commission for helping reform the country’s news publication sector.
At one point, Kamal Ahmed expressed surprise upon learning many journalists are yet to receive the government’s medical assistance for treating injuring sustained in last year’s anti-fascist uprising.
