Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has handed job appointment letters to 10 members of families of those slain and injured in the July Uprising.

He presented the letters at his Tejgaon office on Saturday, also checking on the recipients’ families.

The appointees are: Sabina Akter Rima, wife of slain Md Sohag; Rajia Khatun, wife of slain Md Shahriar; Afsana Akter, wife of slain Abdullah Kabir; Aklima Akter, wife of slain Mostafa Kamal Raju; Sumaiya Akter Suborna, wife of slain Md Jewel; Samia Islam Popy, sister of slain Miraj; Hafiza Akter Happy, wife of slain Ahsan Kabir; Farzana Akter Rani, wife of slain Omar Nurul Absar; Sabana Akter, wife of critically injured Abdul Matin; and Arzu Akter, wife of injured Julfikar Alam.

Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu said, “The prime minister highlighted people’s sacrifices across different eras, from the 1971 Liberation War to the July movement of 2024.

“He said the core goal and purpose behind all these sacrifices was to build a better Bangladesh, where the country’s people could live better lives.”

Tarique said, “Behind the sacrifice of everyone we lost, everyone physically injured or otherwise affected, lay one shared aspiration, making Bangladesh better.”

Citing constraints facing the state and government, he said: “Despite these constraints, we must move the country forward within the bounds of reality. What matters isn’t what we received, but what we could give to the country.”

The deputy press secretary said the premier pledged that efforts to properly recognise the sacrifices of those killed and injured in July would continue.

Fatema Tuz Zohra, mother of recently appointed staffer and slain Abdullah Bin Zahid, and injured July activist Soheli Tamanna were also present.

Shiplu said family members of the July victims expressed gratitude to the prime minister upon receiving their letters.

Tarique also gifted three July activists a CNG-operated autorickshaw and pedal-run rickshaws to support their livelihoods.
