BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Zainul Abdin Farroque has said there should be no ideological division among political parties, stating that the people must always remain the top priority in the country.

Speaking at a protest rally organized by the Ganatantrik Forum in front of the National Press Club, opposing the imposition of more VAT, on Thursday, Farroque, addressing a comment made by Jatiya Nagorik Committee Convener Nasiruddin Patwari about- “Zia-ism” or “Mujib-ism,” Farroque urged him to refrain from making such remarks.

Farroque said: “Ziaur Rahman declared Bangladesh’s independence, established its identity as a Muslim country, formed Saarc, and initiated irrigation systems by digging canals for farmers. He also resolved issues through discussions with political leaders. Please refrain from commenting on Zia-ism.”

He continued: “Let me be clear, Hasina’s fall was not confined to the July movement alone. For the past 16 years, we waged a rigorous movement against Sheikh Hasina alongside the people and democratic forces of Bangladesh.

“We have endured arrests, torture, and oppression. Our sleepless nights were spent in graveyards, and together, we have managed to bid her farewell.”

Farroque also expressed hope for a reformed Bangladesh under Dr Yunus, saying: “We envision elections that will elect true representatives of the people. There will be reforms, laws will be enacted, and corruption will end.”

“However, there will no longer be any room for conspiracies or delays like those of 1/11. We will build a Bangladesh where there are no torture cells, no corruption, and the rule of law prevails,” he added.
