Implementing laws is now the biggest challenge, noted Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, adding that rising prices of essential goods are causing hardship for people.

“We are not intentionally causing this suffering; the system isn’t functioning properly, which is the main issue. We are trying,” he said.

He made these remarks on Sunday morning at an event marking International Customs Day, held at the National Board of Revenue building.

Dr. Ahmed highlighted that implementing a crucial project like the National Single Window took six years, which is not normal. “There are many necessary laws and procedures in place, and some new ones have also been formulated. However, the challenge lies in implementation,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) emphasized that strict enforcement of laws is essential. He urged against creating complications in imports by submitting false declarations, noting that the government is working to make business and daily life easier.

It was announced at the event that the National Single Window will be inaugurated within a week. This system will simplify and expedite the clearance process for imported and exported goods at ports. The NBR has already signed agreements with 39 organizations to facilitate its implementation.
