Salman Shah, Dhallywood’s unforgettable star from the ’90s, continues to captivate audiences nearly three decades after his tragic death. Known for his trendsetting style, magnetic presence, and natural acting, he became a symbol of stardom in Bangladesh’s film industry. In a career that was as brief as it was meteoric, Salman established himself as a superstar and defined an era of Bangladeshi cinema.

Now, fans old and new have a reason to celebrate as one of his most popular films, “Jibon Songsar”, has been re-released in theatres, offering a nostalgic trip for older viewers and a rare chance for younger generations to experience the magic of Salman on the big screen.

Directed by Jakir Hossain Raju, “Jibon Songsar” became a commercial success when it first hit theatres on October 18, 1996. The film, rich in storytelling, music, and performances, featured not only Salman Shah and Shabnur but also the popular duo of Farooque and Babita from the black-and-white era.

After many years, the film has made its way back to cinemas. A new generation of fans, who admire Salman Shah but never had the chance to watch his films on the big screen, now have the opportunity. Director Jakir Hossain Raju said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for those fans who always wished to experience Salman’s films in theatres.”

Since last Friday, “Jibon Songsar” has been shown at BGB Cinema Hall in Dhaka. Before this, the same theatre also released another Salman-Shabnur classic, “Chawa Theke Pawa”.

Mohammad Anwar Hossain, an official from BGB Cinema Hall, remarked, “Audience numbers have significantly dropped. Whether it’s new or old films, people no longer go to the cinema like they used to. However, we must keep the hall running so this week, we are screening the Salman Shah starrer timeless film ‘Jibon Songsar’.”
