The European Union (EU) has expressed its full support for the Chief Justice’s initiatives on judicial independence and reforms.

The Supreme Court’s Public Relations Officer, Shafiqul Islam, issued a press release on Monday (February 24) to the media, confirming the EU’s stance.

The EU Delegation to Bangladesh also shared a statement on its official Facebook page and said, “The EU supports the independence and effectiveness of Bangladesh’s judiciary.”

“The Bangladesh Supreme Court is working with UNDP, and we stand by our partners. We uphold universal values and support the Chief Justice and the interim government’s reform initiatives,” the statement added.

Notably, on 22 February, EU Ambassador and head of Delegation Michael Miller attended a programme organised by the Supreme Court and UNDP in Mymensingh Division, where judicial officials from different districts participated.

The event was graced by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed as the chief guest, with Justice Farah Mahbub of the Supreme Court’s High Court Division also in attendance.
