Man held  over murder of sleeping wife with axe

A 55-year-old man in Kurigram’s Nageshwri area allegedly hacked his wife to death with an axe on Monday.

Kurigram Superintendent of Police (SP) Al Asad Md. Mahfuzul Islam provided this information through a press conference on Monday afternoon.

Shatya Chandra Shil, the accused, attacked his wife Lata Rani Shil (38) with an axe while she was asleep. After the incident, the police started to unravel the mystery of the discussed incident and arrest the accused. Later on Sunday, the killer’s husband was arrested from Aditmari in Lalmonirhat district.

The Superintendent of Police said that the fugitive killer’s husband Satya Chandra Shil was arrested in front of Baraibari Government Primary School on the border of Palashi Union under Aditmari Thana of Lalmonirhat district yesterday at 10 pm. Besides, a blood-stained sharp ax with a wooden handle used by the accused in the murder and a white blood-stained sweater worn by the accused were recovered from the scene.

According to police, there was a quarrel between husband and wife due to a family dispute. Husband Satya Chandra Shil killed his sleeping wife Lata Rani Shil on the spot with an axe yesterday morning. The deceased Lata Rani Shil’s father’s house is in Shilpari village of Mahadev Pat area of Raniganj union of Chilmari upazila. The deceased’s husband, Satya Chandra Shil, is a resident of Vita village in Kabir, Heliport, Nageshwari Municipality.
