3 granted bail over harassment of ex-CEC Huda

A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to three accused including Mohammad Hanif, 38, member secretary of the Uttara West Thana unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal, over the harassment of former chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah issued the bail order after the accused surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail.

The other two accused are: the prime accused of the case Mozammel Haque Dhali, and Md. Kaiyum, joint convener of the Uttara East Thana unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal.

Earlier, on Tuesday (24 June), Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman had ordered Hanif to be sent to jail following a remand hearing who was arrested on the same day.

According to the case documents, on 22 June, unidentified assailants attacked Nurul Huda at a residence in Uttara’s Sector 5.

Police quickly rescued him and took him to the Airport Police Station, from where he was later transferred to the Detective Branch office.

A case was filed under Sections 143, 448, 323, and 500 of the Penal Code against those who unlawfully entered his home and harassed him as part of an unlawful assembly.

Earlier on Monday, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman granted a four-day remand for KM Nurul Huda in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
