At least 15 people were killed and six others injured after a rod-laden truck carrying passengers overturned on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Tangail’s Elenga area early Monday (25 May).

The accident occurred around 4:00am in the Saratail Dakshinpara area while the truck was travelling towards northern Bangladesh carrying passengers heading home to celebrate Eid, according to Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Elenga Fire Service Station.

OC Ataur said the truck, loaded with iron rods and passengers, lost control over the steering and plunged into a roadside ditch before overturning. The victims were trapped beneath the vehicle, leaving 15 people dead on the spot.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

The six injured passengers were rescued and taken to Tangail Sadar Hospital for treatment.
