Md Daud Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan model police station in the capital, was closed and attached to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters on Wednesday, five days after a procession that was brought out in his jurisdiction by the banned Awami League activists.

An office order, signed by DMP commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, was issued in this regard on Wednesday.

According to the office order, Daud Hossain has been attached to the Central Reserve Office under the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division for administrative reasons.

On September 11, leaders and activists of the activity-banned Awami League and its associate organisations brought out a procession in a lane near KFC on Road 3 in Gulshan at about 11:45 am.

When police attempted to disperse the procession, the marchers allegedly hurled crude bombs at them. Police arrested two people on the spot and recovered five crude bombs.

At least 75 people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.

Speaking at a programme at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said, ‘We had intelligence information. But on Friday, the police perhaps could not anticipate that they would gather in the area at that time under the pretext of offering Jummah prayers and carry out such an act.’
