State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku led a special cleanliness drive on Friday morning at the Baby Stand area in Tangail municipal town, immediately following the conclusion of a temporary cattle market.
The initiative was taken to alleviate local public suffering, ensure a hygienic environment, and restore civic comfort to the residents.
Organised under the direct initiative and personal involvement of the state minister, the campaign drew active participation from local volunteers. The state minister was present on-site to supervise the waste management operations, instructing teams to clear the market’s vicinity as swiftly as possible.
The state minister emphasised that the rapid removal of animal market waste is critical to curbing environmental pollution and reducing public hardship. Following coordinated efforts from all parties involved, the cleanup was completed within a remarkably short time.
The move has generated a positive response among local residents, who view it as a leading example of civic responsibility in maintaining a clean and liveable urban environment.
Also present during the cleanliness and waste removal drive were Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former Member Secretary of Tangail District BNP; Saleh Mohammad Shafi Ethen, District Member Secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal; and Tanvir Hasan Khan Rubel, founding director of the local voluntary organisation ‘Tangail Swechchhasebak Forum’, along with leaders from various social and political organisations.
Following the cleanup, State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku officially inaugurated the “Bindubasini Football Championship 2026” at the Shaheed Maruf Stadium, and the “Police Lines Football Championship 2026” at the District Police Lines ground.
Speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremonies, the state minister highlighted that sports play a vital role in steering young people away from drugs, anti-social behaviour, and crime, while fostering a healthy, conscious, and humane society.
He urged the younger generation to move away from mobile phone addiction and the dangers of narcotics, calling on them to engage more with outdoor sports.
