Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman has warned that legal action will be taken against the media outlet, it broadcasts statements of the ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday to highlight the progress of various government initiatives, he said Sheikh Hasina’s remarks about returning to Bangladesh were “mere rhetoric” and that she lacked the capability to carry out such a plan.

He also said the government continues to maintain diplomatic engagement with all major partners, including the United States, Russia, China and India, adding that there are no geopolitical complications in this regard.

Zahed Ur Rahman also addressed the country’s food and energy situation, saying Bangladesh has adequate food stocks and that the prices of tomatoes and green chillies are expected to return to a tolerable level soon.

Responding to concerns over unusually high electricity bills, he said consumers receiving abnormal bills should lodge complaints with the relevant customer service centres.

The information adviser further said power shortages outside Dhaka have emerged due to an accident at an LNG terminal.

He explained that reduced gas supplies have increased pressure on electricity generation, but expressed optimism that the gas shortage would gradually ease within the next few days.
